Time to leave, time to go. I have my bags packed and my tickets booked. Now the time has come to actually get on the airplane and fly to the other side of the world. I have not felt nerves untill a few days ago. The nerves started on Sunday… maybe not so much nerves as the realisation as to what I am leaving behind. My life here in Antwerp is definitly not bad. I have a very loving family and great friends. I will miss so many people.
Why am I leaving then? Well, I think it is my time to explore. I always have been a curious person, like to venture out in the unknown. When I am in a restaurant in a country where I don’t speak the language I would most likely put my finger somewhere random on the menu and order whatever it landed on. I am not picky and like the unknown. That is why I am taking this opportunity to go and explore. Right now I have very little responsibilities: no job, no appartement, no kids. It is just the perfect time to use the little savings I have and trade them for life experience.
I am leaving rainy and grey Belgium behind to go to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A lot af people have asked me: ‘Why Malaysia?’ Well, I have some reasons. First off all, the flight was cheap and the visum requirements are very little. Secondly, I think South East Asia is a good region to start travelling. It is a region well aquanted with travellers and backpackers. I am sure I will meet some like minded people over there. A place to ease in to a new lifestyle. Thirdly, Borneo. It’s a place that has facinated me for a while now, mostely because of the biodiversity, ultimate rainforest. The sad thing is that it is disapearing little by little. I want to see how the place is like and see what I can do to prevent it desapearing. Even the small bits help, don’t they?
